Privacy Policy
TuneToy is designed to tune, make beats, practice, and play without collecting or storing sound.
Effective July 31, 2026
Microphone audio
TuneToy uses your browser's microphone permission only after you choose Start tuning. Audio is processed locally in your browser to calculate pitch. TuneToy does not record, upload, transmit, or store your microphone audio.
The Beat Box does not use the microphone. It synthesizes drum sounds locally with the Web Audio API, and those sounds are not recorded, uploaded, transmitted, or stored by TuneToy.
Jam Along and Piano also synthesize their sound locally and do not use the microphone. Their generated drums, bass, chords, and piano notes are not recorded, uploaded, transmitted, or stored by TuneToy.
Little Lessons does not use the microphone itself. Its Sound Detective card links to the tuner, where a grown-up must deliberately start microphone access before any audio is processed.
Settings stored on your device
The tuner saves your selected tuning, A4 reference, chime preference, and chosen microphone label in your browser's local storage. The Beat Box saves its pattern and controls. Jam Along saves its key, scale, groove, tempo, and volume. Piano saves its sound, range, and volume. Little Lessons saves only which cards were starred as complete. This information remains on your device and can be removed by clearing this site's browser data. Lesson-mode tool visits use temporary lesson settings and do not replace the regular tool settings already saved on the device.
Stick Together multiplayer rooms
Stick Together connects your browser to TuneToy's room service when you create or join a playground. The service assigns a generated character label and color and temporarily processes the room code, a random browser-session identifier, connection status, movement input, and current character position so everyone in the room can see the same playground. Stick Together has no accounts, chat, typed profile names, or location tracking.
Room metadata is retained for no more than 24 hours and is then deleted. Connected-player positions are kept with the live room connection and disappear when that connection closes. Cloudflare may process an IP address to deliver the connection, prevent abuse, and limit excessive room creation; TuneToy does not display IP addresses to other players.
Hosting and security
TuneToy is hosted by Cloudflare. Like most web hosts, Cloudflare may process limited technical information needed to deliver and protect the site, such as IP address, browser request headers, and security events. TuneToy does not operate user accounts or maintain a database of tuner activity. The limited, temporary Stick Together room data described above is separate from tuner activity.
Advertising and analytics
TuneToy uses Google AdSense code on selected general-audience tuner pages that may display advertising. Google and its advertising partners may process information such as cookie or local-storage identifiers, IP address, device information, and browsing activity to deliver, limit, measure, and personalize advertising, subject to your location and choices. Google explains how it uses information from sites that use its services.
TuneToy uses Google Analytics 4 to measure page views, browser and device categories, referring pages, and interactions with its tools. Tuner events may report when tuning starts, the selected tuning, a permission result, string locks, or tuning progress. Beat Box events may report coarse playback and pattern controls. Jam Along events may report its selected key, scale, groove, tempo, or a fretboard-map note that was tapped. Piano events may report first use and sound, range, or sustain changes, but never the notes played. These events never include microphone audio, generated audio, detected pitch or frequency, microphone or device labels, Beat Box pattern steps, piano performances, or message content.
TuneToy Play, Little Lessons, and Stick Together do not load Google Analytics or Google AdSense. When an existing music tool is opened from the family area in kids mode, analytics and advertising are disabled for that tool visit.
Advertising storage and advertising-related data use are disabled by default. For visitors in the European Economic Area, United Kingdom, and Switzerland, analytics storage also defaults to denied unless the visitor grants consent through an available consent interface. Google may receive limited cookieless measurement signals while storage is denied.
