Lower every string two semitones to D G C F A D while preserving the interval pattern and fingerings of standard tuning.
Whole-step-down tuning gives the guitar a deeper register without requiring new chord or scale shapes. It can support a lower vocal range and a heavier overall sound. A shape named E in standard fingering sounds as D, and every other shape is transposed downward by the same whole step.
Dropping every string by a whole step reduces tension noticeably. Many guitars benefit from heavier strings and a setup check when this becomes a regular tuning. Very light strings may feel imprecise, buzz more easily, or move sharp when fretted with normal pressure.
Work gradually from the lowest string upward, then repeat the sequence. If the low D2 begins far from target, tap its string pill to lock the detector until it is close.
The standard interval checks remain valid: fifth fret matches the next open string except between F3 and A3, where the fourth fret matches. The open sixth and first strings are both D, separated by two octaves, and should reinforce one another cleanly.
All six strings preserve standard tuning's internal relationships while sounding one whole step lower. That means existing muscle memory transfers directly, but the reduced tension and lower resonance can make the instrument respond more softly and sound broader.
